Two years ago Juice Williams upset a heavily favored Ohio State Buckeyes team AT Ohio Stadium. This year? Bench-warmer.
After a 1-3 start, Illinois has decided to make a change at quarterback. Senior Juice Williams has been benched in favor of junior Eddie McGee for this week’s game against Michigan State, Fighting Illini head coach Ron Zook announced on his radio show Monday morning.
Juice Williams’ stock has fallen like a rock ever since that victory over Ohio State two years ago. It did, however, give the University of Illinois a spotlight on their football team for the first time, since… well… who knows?
Juice’s dreams went on to get crushed as Illinois was pummeled by a superior USC team. What could have been a Cinderella story of a football program’s revival at the hands of coach Zook, a guy whose fans made a website asking Florida to fire him when he coached there, has since turned into a nightmare.
Despite the spanking USC gave Illinois two years ago, they went into the next season with high hopes. Unfortunately for Juice, he and his football team have failed to reach the prominence of two years ago after beating Ohio State. It now seems that Juice, a senior, has seen his last chance.
At least he can tell his kids one day that he upset the Ohio State Buckeyes under the lights at Ohio Stadium. Not many people can say they’ve beaten the Buckeyes period let alone at Ohio Stadium, under the lights against a highly ranked Buckeye team.
