At 5:07 p.m. today, the Tigers and Twins will play a one-game playoff to see who wins the AL Central and gets to go to the playoffs. Minnesota is throwing out Scott Baker, while Detroit answers with 20-year-old rookie Rick Porcello. The game is in Minnesota, meaning about 50,000 Twins fans will be screaming their heads off inside the Metrodome. What’s interesting is that this will be the second straight season in which the Twins will have played a 163rd regular season game. You have to think that the odds are in the Twins’ favor for this game (and they are, by the way), what with a raucous home crowd and a rookie pitcher taking the bump for Detroit. I’m pulling for Detroit, although I don’t have a great reason why. Does not liking Twins fans count as a great reason? It does? OK, cool. Hopefully Cabrera can pull it together and Granderson can come back from his month-and-a-half long vacation from playing baseball.
