BYE, BYE, BOWDEN

BowdenWell… not yet, at least.

Florida State coach Bobby Bowden will not be asked to step down this season, a source told ESPN’s Shaun King on Tuesday.

Despite his job being safe for the moment, it’s been no secret that some of the Florida State alumni have been less than pleased with some downright crap performances by the Seminoles as of late. Whether or not Coach Bowden is the one to blame for FSU’s fall from college football grace, I have no idea. I’m not a football coach. Neither are most of his critics, but since when did that ever stop fans from drunkenly screaming at the TV, as if there’s a transmitter on there that reaches the coaches? NEVER!

While it’s hard to pinpoint the problem in Seminole country, the chair of the university’s board of trustees seems to think there’s a bit of a power struggle going on between Bowden and coach-in-training, Jimbo Fisher (Jimbo? Is that a real name?).

“We’ve got too many bosses out there,” chairman Jim Smith told The Associated Press. “Jimbo is in a very, very tough situation where people assume he has a whole lot more authority than he really has. He’s getting blamed for a lot of things that’s just not his fault.”

Well it seems quite obvious which side Mr. Chair of Trustees is on, unless he’s placing the “fault” on the team mascot or something. Methinks he’s referring to Bowden, though.

Only time will tell how this coaching debacle will resolve. Personally, it seems to me Bowden has paid his dues, but if the guy sucks at his job (and if the university can prove it) then why shouldn’t he get fired? Should a guy who has been working in construction for forty years get to keep his job if he’s putting lives in danger?

“Hey, uh… Bob almost dropped a 300 ton beam on the crew today. Ya think it might be time to let him go?” “Nah, he’s made this crew what it is. He can do whatever the f&#k he wants with it!”

The school says Bowden will be leading the team in 2010, but if there are anymore close games with FCS programs, they might need to reconsider. I’m sure there’s senior citizen flag football team he can coach or something…
