Everyone knows what the dreaded timeout is. You go into a corner, stare at a wall, whilst pretending to think about what you did wrong. In the Hawkins family, though, things are run a little bit differently.

Unlike last year, when coach Dan Hawkins only temporarily benched his quarterback son, the Colorado Buffaloes are set to go with Tyler Hansen for the remainder of the season.

Cody Hawkins, son of Coach Hawkins, just got benched by his dad, the ultimate timeout.

Props to Pops for making the tough decision. Everyone knows that kid who played on their high-school (insert sport here) team who just so happened to be the coach’s son. He’d also just so happen to go on to start and win team awards at the end of the year as others murmured “really?” to themselves.

Apparently things work differently in D-1 college football when daddy coach is facing pissed off alumni, a worse than expected start to the season, and most importantly, a son who throws a pass that turns into a 92 yard touchdown for the wrong team.

Tyler Hansen will now take over the Colorado Buffaloes’ reigns for the rest of the season. As for the Hawkins’ father-son relationship… who knows. All I know is that family dinners are going to be pretty awkward from here on out.
