As a Knicks fan the guy was just a crappy white center. The kind of guy that you always root for when they bring him in at garbage time. He was a bruiser, hard worker but something tells me this guy knew EXACTLY what he was doing in the NBA.

Former Portland Trail Blazers center Chris Dudley is considering a run for the Republican nomination for Governor.

At the moment his “citizen” credentials for an office that has seen far too many career politicians are fairly sound.

Dudley earned a degree in economics and political science from Yale and throughout his 16-year NBA career took part in numerous charitable causes and received numerous accolades for his work off the court. (You can see more of those here)

While I’m not exactly a fan that Dudley is a Republican, it’s nice to see a legitimately smart person run for office.   Not to mention it’s nice to see a former NBA player who wasn’t one of the league’s highest paid guys not go broke.

In fact, Dudley probably makes more money now than he did in the NBA.   My only concern with him would be his free throw shooting skills.  You gotta figure a Yale guy could at least find a way to get the ball in the hole at the free throw line.  But a career 45% shooter from the stripe tells me that he’s gonna have some trouble in that office.

Plus he’s 6′11.  God that must suck in the real world.
