Oklahoma State wide receiver, Dez Bryant, is trying to regain his eligibility with the NCAA after attempting to pull a fast one.

Bryant was suspended indefinitely after he told the NCAA he had not been to the house of Deion Sanders.

The irony was that Bryant would have had no problem if he admitted to visiting Sanders, but he lied and so he got punished. He admitted his mistake and the university is now working on reinstating him. Yeah, the lying thing was pretty stupid, but I think this shows just how uptight the NCAA has become. I don’t think anyone thinks of the NCAA as a particularly laid back, welcoming organization. That’s probably why Bryant felt he needed to lie. The NCAA has so many rules hanging over these young athletes’ heads, they probably feel like they need to keep every bit of their personal life a secret, lest they invoke the wrath of the mighty NCAA. That doesn’t excuse the lying, though.

In my opinion, the NCAA needs to let the kid get back out on the field. His lie wasn’t that of malice. It sounds like he did something, later realized it might prevent him from playing and wanted to protect himself from losing time on the field. Again, not the greatest logic, but his heart was in the right place and his head was probably clouded by the fear the NCAA instills in players and coaches should they tempt the Almighty organization. Besides, it’s not like he was lying about selling drugs, doing drugs or a combination of the two with the addition of a hooker.

His wrist has been slapped and I see no need for further action. Let the kid play some football!
