Antoine Walker is the newest case of an NBA player “losing” his millions.
[Walker] liked to move in an outsized entourage; his mother estimates that, during his playing days, he was supporting 70 friends and family members in one way or another. And speaking of his mother, he built her a mansion in the Chicago suburbs, complete with an indoor pool, 10 bathrooms, and a full-size basketball court. [...]
Living at the Bishops Forest condominium complex in Waltham during the Celtics season, Walker turned the pavement surrounding his home into a virtual luxury car lot — two Bentleys, two Mercedes, a Range Rover, a Cadillac Escalade, a bright red Hummer. Often, the vehicles were tricked out with custom paint jobs, rims, and sound systems at considerable added expense. He also collected top-line watches — Rolexes and diamond-encrusted Cartiers.
I guess having an entourage of 70 people doesn’t help. Look, it’s nice to look out for your friends and family but do you really need to buy your mom a 10 bedroom house when she may never have lived in a house with more than one bathroom?
How these guys don’t at least get someone to help them with money is beyond me and I can’t in any way feel sympathy for these guys. And a guy like Walker? Doing his stupid shimmy cocky moves on the court just had to translate off of it didn’t it.
Here I am busting my ass every single day to make cash and these guys get to play hoops for a living and throw it all away. It’s truly sickening. What I wouldn’t give to make a million bucks a year playing a sport.
