Despite being one of the top ranked receivers in the country and rivaling fellow former Orangeman, Marvin Harrison, in some of the schools’ top records, WR Mike Williams decided to quit.

Williams, one of the top receivers in the country, told coach Doug Marrone on Monday morning of his decision.

Williams, who did not play last year because of academic problems, was suspended for Syracuse’s game against Akron nine days ago for violating team policy.

Sounds like something is wrong that’s not getting out to the public. But then again, it’s probably for the best that the national media hasn’t been able to figure out exactly why Williams decided to quit. The reasons are more than likely personal, but unfortunately, the guys with the cameras and microphones don’t really care what’s “personal” most of the time.

Perhaps Williams is the rare exception to the rule that everyone blessed with athletic ability must use it.
