It all started when Florida’s Brandon Spikes thought it would be a good idea to poke a Georgia’s players eyes out (all of the football greats do it!). Then Urban Meyer contributed by giving Spikes the weakest possible suspension, pretty much saying to everyone that so long as you can keep what would generally be termed as “assault” on the filed, then you’re welcome at the University of Florida. It would seem Florida got off pretty easily, but now the fans are striking back with the above video, which apparently proves Georgia started it. Yes, Florida fans are apparently of the intellectual fortitude of… well… myself when I was 5 years old yelling “he started it!”

The video, which has become one of the most viewed on YouTube over the last 24 hours, shows Georgia linebacker Nick Williams drilling Florida quarterback Tim Tebow away from the play after Tebow had handed off. According to some Florida fans, that play was the one that set Florida players off and set the tone for a game featuring cheap shots on both sides.

Nobody has a problem with protecting the quarterback. But if alleged late hits on Tebow were really the catalyst for Spike’s eye poking, then why didn’t he say so? And even if it was his way of responding, who the Hell tries to poke someone’s eyes out!? Urban Meyer needs to better instruct his players on how to respond to cheap play on the field. But then again, Urban Meyer hands out suspensions that are weaker than what you’d get in high school or pee wee football for doing what Spikes did. At least they now have a new, catch, A Christmas Story-esque slogan!

Watch out for the Florida Gators! They’ll poke your eyes out…
