The NCAA sure has done a bang up job to show college athletes that they should stay in school and finish their education by denying Oklahoma State’s Dez Bryant’s appeal to be reinstated this year.
Bryant was declared ineligible by Oklahoma State after misleading NCAA investigators about his relationship with Deion Sanders.
Since the NCAA has decided that fibbing about a platonic relationship is punishable by a season suspension, Dez Bryant has decided to just skip out on his senior year and go straight to the NFL.
Oklahoma State wide receiver Dez Bryant said Thursday night that he will enter the 2010 NFL draft.
“I feel this is the best decision for me,” Bryant said. “It’s what God wants me to do. I’m going to start my training Tuesday in Tampa.”
Sure, Bryant might have jumped straight to the NFL after this season anyway, but since the NCAA is forcing him to stay out, it makes more sense of him to bite the bullet and start training for the NFL and get paid rather than another college season. The NCAA should have shown that they believe in second chances (especially for a harmless freaking lie) and allowed Bryant to finish out the season. Who knows, maybe Bryant would have decided to stay in school and get his diploma will pursuing the NFL.
Bottom line, if Michael Vick gets a second chance with the NFL after running a dog fighting ring, I think Dez Bryant deserved a second chance for a small fib.
