NCAA basketball started up again Monday night with a handful of games. The games, however, unfortunately featured really good teams playing potentially crap teams from colleges you’ve never heard of.
Albany vs. Syracuse
Murray St. vs. California
Florida Int. vs. North Carolina
Alcorn St. vs. Ohio St.
As I write this, Syracuse is in the second up by about 30, North Carolina and Ohio State took care of business. Cal has yet to play Murray St. (I have a grown-up bedtime. What of it!?), but one can assume the outcome.
The top headlines of college basketball’s opening night as of now are Isiah Thomas losing in his coaching debut and Ohio State’s Evan Turner chalking up a triple-double. I’ll leave Isiah Thomas alone, because his mom is in the hospital undergoing open-heart surgery (get well!), but Evan Turner… Holy Hell!
He had 14 points, 17 rebounds and 10 assists in OSU’s 100-60 blowout against Alcorn St. It’s early (obviously), but look out for the Buckeyes with an unGodly looking Evan Turner to turn some heads this season. As for North Carolina… who cares! They’re always good and that’s just boring to a Midwesterner like me who gets a good team in his city once every five years or so.
Let the games (and cliches) begin!
