Wow, talk about being a poster child for going to Europe for a year and hiding out on the bench. Just in case any of you don’t remember, this is the path that Brandon Jennings took.
After graduating from Oak Hill Academy, he decided to play professional basketball the Italian club Lottomatica Roma instead of playing collegiately for the University of Arizona Wildcats, leading to controversy and debate on the NBA’s “prep-to-pro” policy adopted in 2006. After a year in Italy, Jennings declared for the draft and was selected by the Bucks tenth overall.
Controversy huh? I think this is a kid who knew exactly what he was doing. Jennings knew he was an excellent ballplayer and clearly thought he was ready for the NBA. So what’d he do? Instead of going to college for a year he made $2MM bucks to stay in shape, play against pros, and have a kick ass time in Europe.
And what is he doing now?

Jennings is truly embracing the NBA
Only averaging a mere 25.5 points, 4.8 Rebounds and 5.5 Assists per game. Call me crazy but this guy is the second coming of Allen Iverson. In only a few weeks Jennings is proving exactly why talented young ballplayers should be going to Europe.
Look, don’t get me wrong. I understand the value of an education (well not really, most smart people who are motivated become successful if they want to) but face it guys. If you have a chance to earn $2MM you damn well take it. And it’s to play basketball!
Honestly, I’m sick of people touting an education. Where has an education gotten this country now? Into an economical pit of despair that’s where.
Let’s say we put Jennings in Arizona right now. He’s averaging let’s say 20PPG and about 5-6 assists at the collegiate level. NBA scouts are drooling over the kid. He’s taking home economics and TV in school and more than likely having his classes taken for him by little dorks with glasses or T.A.’s that will pass him no matter what.
Is Brandon Jennings graduating from Arizona and becoming a Hedge Fund Manager? No. Is he running his own business? No. “Jennings should have gone to college!” Shut the fuck up people. Seriously. Did you make $2mm bucks? No. Are you this good a basketball player? No.
Yeah I’m ignorant right? I’m just a piece of shit who doesn’t understand the value of an education. OK, I went to Tulane and got drunk for four years. Worked in the real world for 6 before starting up my websites and running my own business.
My only regret is that I didn’t start these websites IN college. Unless you’re getting an MBA and know exactly what you want in life, college doesn’t mean squat. Granted it’s an incredible experience but when we’re talking making money and having a career? College holds VERY little water. Yes, in life experience and slaying chicks? College is awesome.
So to all you naysayers out there. Jennings did the right thing and I applaud his decision making. I just hope he only has enough sense to know how to manage his money. That’s the only concern I have with these guys. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with taking the money. I just hope that these guys can keep it.

Brandon Jennings is quickly becoming one of my favorite NBA players. Good for him avoiding joke classes and exploitation at college.
