Good news, Cardinals fans – and I’m not talking about Albert Pujols winning the MVP again. It turns out that Pujols wants to stay in St. Louis for a long, long time:
“This is my place,” Pujols said. “This is where I want to be. I don’t hide that. I keep saying that, since you guys [reporters] started talking about whether I’m going to be a free agent or whether I’m going to sign here. We’ve still got two years left. … When my decision comes, then I’ll deal with that. Right now I don’t have to worry about it because I’m still going to be a Cardinal for two more years and hopefully for 15 more years if I can play for that long and can retire as a Cardinal.”
Pujols may be the classiest guy in baseball, so I think that he’s telling the truth about his intentions. It’s gotta be real sweet being a Cardinals fan at the moment, knowing that the best player of our generation is intent on sticking around St. Louis.
My only question is: if Pujols is playing 15 years from now, will he actually be productive? I mean, he’ll be in his 60s!
