All indications are that Florida’s Coach Meyer will be staying at Florida and not fleeing to Irish country to rebuild (yet again) a program gone haywire. But then again Coach Weis is by all accounts still the head coach of Notre Dame, so I wouldn’t expect Meyer to be say he wants the job while in the middle of a title run (also yet again) with Florida. It wouldn’t exactly be the greatest PR move for a coach who hasn’t exactly had the greatest PR year.
Personally, I think Meyer is telling the truth. I don’t think he’ll be heading to Notre Dame. And even if he’s considering it, here are three reasons he should stay far, far away from Notre Dame.
1.) Florida Gators
Um… Duh. By going to Notre Dame he’d be taking a formerly great program and try to get them back to where they used to be. He essentially already did that with Florida. Sure, the history isn’t as great, but at this point… who cares?
2.) Everybody Hates Notre Dame
Granted they had some die-hard, passionate fans, but everyone else hates them. And leading the hated Irish isn’t like leading the hated Yankees of baseball.
3.) 2, Going On 3 Championships
For some this would work in favor of Meyer going to Notre Dame. He’s already led the Gators to a couple of championships, and might well be on his third, so what the heck else does he have to prove? Nothing. He only has something to prove if he goes to Notre Dame, in my correct opinion.
Stay in Florida, Urban. Unless you love the masochistic lifestyle, then feel free to go to Notre Dame.
