Good news, Cardinals fans – and I’m not talking about Albert Pujols winning the MVP again. It turns out that Pujols wants to stay in St. Louis for a long, long time:
“This is my place,” Pujols said. “This is where I want to be. I don’t hide that. I keep saying that, since you guys [reporters] started talking about whether I’m going to be a free agent or whether I’m going to sign here. We’ve still got two years left. … When my decision comes, then I’ll deal with that. Right now I don’t have to worry about it because I’m still going to be a Cardinal for two more years and hopefully for 15 more years if I can play for that long and can retire as a Cardinal.”
Pujols may be the classiest guy in baseball, so I think that he’s telling the truth about his intentions. It’s gotta be real sweet being a Cardinals fan at the moment, knowing that the best player of our generation is intent on sticking around St. Louis.
My only question is: if Pujols is playing 15 years from now, will he actually be productive? I mean, he’ll be in his 60s!

For the first time in what seems like forever, the NL and AL Cy Young Awards went to the guys who most deserved them – Zack Grienke and Tim Lincecum. But there are still some sportswriters out there who look at wins when evaluating a pitcher’s value or performance. Like Bryan Burwell of the St. Louis Post Dispatch:
Of all the many mysteries surrounding our national pastime, none is more baffling than the rather peculiar obsession by so many who profess a love of baseball who repeatedly try to turn this wonderfully simple game into a mind-numbing, highfalutin’ brain twister.
So someone is going to have to help me on this one.
When did pitching victories become passé?
First off, I love how anyone who approaches the evaluation of baseball players with any type of quantitative analysis whatsoever is ruining the game. Fuck you, dude. Ignorance may be bliss, but knowing just how well a player is performing – with the aid of, you know, hard evidence instead of cliches and nonsense found in most newspapers – actually improves most people’s enjoyment of the game. And if I’m calculating every possible statistic known to man, how does that take away from your enjoyment of the game? It doesn’t. It’s people like this who are against gay marriage.
Secondly, does anyone really – I mean really - still think that wins are a good way to evaluate a pitcher’s performace? A PITCHER HAS NO CONTROL WHATSOEVER OVER HOW HIS TEAM PERFORMS OFFENSIVELY. At this point, I have to think that writers like Bryan Burwell are just baiting people like me into getting worked up. They can’t possibly be that dense, can they?

It’s nice to see a coach go completely apeshit on the sidelines once in a while. You gotta like how Josh McDaniels got all fired up yeseterday.
Josh McDaniels was cussing his offense on the sideline after three false-start penalties ruined a drive. One of his more offensive words was delivered unfiltered to the viewers of the NFL Network.
The Denver Broncos coach was informed about the slip after Denver’s 26-6 win against the New York Giants, and the only people expecting him to apologize were the ones that don’t know McDaniels or his team very well.
“That’s their business,” McDaniels said without a hint of remorse. [Via Fox Sports]
First of all I’m annoyed as hell because I was going against Knowshon Moreno in my fantasy league. Second of all, really Giants? This is what you put up on Thanksgiving? That was a “pure heart” type of game and clearly the Broncos wanted it more.
Instead of the typical Coughlin stink face, McDaniels was pissed, plain and simple. He let his players know about it and from that point on it was almost like some kind of a JV game in high school where the players are completely scared of their coach and are playing their asses off.
The Giants on other hand. Are they just not good? I guess so. I mean Antonio Pierce isn’t the entire team is he? What the hell is wrong with these guys? They really shit the bed yesterday.

Dude you suck

Allen Iverson announced his retirement on Wednesday, and although it may be only temporary, now is a good time to reflect on the man’s career and status as a cultural icon. Because make no mistake, the man was an icon. It goes without saying that Iverson, despite his weighing only about 165 lbs, is one of the most prolific scorers in the history of the league. The guy played his ass off every night and no matter how many times he was smashed and crushed and thrown to the floor, he got back up ready to attack the basket once again. He was the anti-Vince Carter.
What I like most about Iverson, though, is that he never changed the guy he was coming into the league. Iverson stayed true to the guys he grew up with and in the face of pressure from David Stern and the rest of the whitest people in the world, he lived his life the way he wanted to. That’s why he was a cultural icon; he practically redefined what it means to “keep it real.” Iverson is a no-doubt Hall of Famer, and I’m going to really miss watching him play.
After the jump, enjoy five great Allen Iverson moments.

John Stockton’s assist record may never be broken but one has to admire what Jason Kidd has been able to accomplish as a point guard.
Jason Kidd moved into second place on the NBA’s all-time assist list as the Dallas Mavericks thumped Texas rivals the Houston Rockets 130-99 on Wednesday.
Kidd made seven assists to move to 10,337 and pass Mark Jackson (10,334) on the list, though he still trails John Stockton (15,806), as the Southwest division leading Mavericks (11-4) continued their strong start to the season. [Via Reuters]
No one can deny that Kidd is awesome on the court. Guy is still going strong finding open guys even when they’re not open. Still though, his son has a very big head.
In honor of Jason Kidd I’ve put together 5 awesome Videos from his impressive NBA Career.
All indications are that Florida’s Coach Meyer will be staying at Florida and not fleeing to Irish country to rebuild (yet again) a program gone haywire. But then again Coach Weis is by all accounts still the head coach of Notre Dame, so I wouldn’t expect Meyer to be say he wants the job while in the middle of a title run (also yet again) with Florida. It wouldn’t exactly be the greatest PR move for a coach who hasn’t exactly had the greatest PR year.
Personally, I think Meyer is telling the truth. I don’t think he’ll be heading to Notre Dame. And even if he’s considering it, here are three reasons he should stay far, far away from Notre Dame. Continue Reading »

Will anyone be having Turducken? I can’t begin to tell you how much that concoction intimidates me. Either way, Jack Daniels + football = a night to forget and my insulting me for hours on end.

During a holiday like Thanksgiving, it’s easy to forget that there are those less fortunate out there. In the midst of devouring your turkey and swallowing your gravy soaked stuffing, thoughts of those without such luxuries hardly enter into the mind. That is why for this Thanksgiving I wanted to bestow this… this wonderful piece of knowledge on you. I wanted to reveal the answer to all of life’s myseteries and sufferings. I wanted to-
HOLY CRAP!
There are a good amount of college basketball games on today along with a Texas college football game. An upset could really shake up the BCS standings and Lord knows that surging teams like Michigan don’t want to have an early stumble against a Creighton.
Forget what I was getting at. GO WATCH SPORTS!
Happy Thanksgiving!
