He hasn’t officially ruled himself out yet, but I am guessing it’s just a matter of time:

After saying at last year’s event in Phoenix that he planned to dunk in the 2010 festivities in Dallas, James now says he’s “50-50″ about taking part.

James felt last year’s contest was too “watered down” and his participation might revive the weekend’s signature event.

“I’m like 50-50 right now,” he said Wednesday night before a game against Phoenix. “I don’t know if you can get it back to the 80s and like in ’98 when Vince (Carter) was in it. It was more about the dunks and less about what was going on around the dunks. We’ll see what happens.”

Hey, Lebron, I know how you can get the dunk contest “back to the 80s and like in ’98 when Vince was in it.”  BY ENTERING THE CONTEST.  If Lebron’s gripe is that there’s not enough excitement and that the contest has become watered down, doesn’t he think he can fix all that simply by entering?  People wouldn’t be going ape shit over Lebron in the dunk contest?

Of course, his reasons are bullshit.  The real reason?  Lebron’s a sensitive egomaniac and doesn’t want to get shown up in front of millions.  I don’t buy the argument that there’s an injury risk; these are the most athletic guys in the world, not a bunch of schlubs from the JCC.  I’m pretty sure they can do some dunks without injuring themselves.

I’ll say it now – there’s no way Lebron enters the dunk contest.  I hope I’m wrong, because he’s one of the sickest dunkers I’ve ever seen, but Lebron is too concerned with his image to participate.  Have fun with your half court shots during warmups.
