This is pretty unacceptable, even at the high school level of football. A perfect pass, and Braylon Edwards’ hands turn to stone. Just pathetic. I was watching this game last night with my buddy Eds, and he claimed that either he or I would have made the catch. I didn’t disagree.
Wearing a helmet limits your vision somewhat, but honestly, how many of you out there think you could have made this catch? It’s remarkable to me when professional athletes screw up on routine plays that almost anyone could make. How the hell does that happen?
It reminds me of when I used to go bet on jai-alai in college and one of the players – after leaping off the wall and doing backflips and snagging a ball moving at over 100 mph with ease – would simply drop a slow ball that was coming right toward him. Granted, that was because jai alai is fixed, and when you get real drunk from the flask of whiskey you brought in with you and shout at the players all night long that they’re worthless servants costing you money, and then they gather together in their little dugout and start chatting and pointing in your direction, and you think, “Holy shit, I’m going to get the shit beaten out of me in the parking lot by guys named Ortuondo, Francisco, and Joey,” you all of a sudden stop questioning the integrity of jai alai and start trying to get out of the place alive.
What I’m trying to say is that I would have made that catch.
