You know the “Hey!” song that’s been played at pretty much every single sporting event over the past 15 years or so? You know, “Rock N Roll Part 2?” This song?
The song was written and performed by Gary Glitter, a guy who’s known primarily for just two things. The first, obviously, is that he created a song that’s become embedded into sports culture, a song that anyone who’s every been to a sporting event has undoubtedly heard. The second, which is a fact known by far fewer people, is that Gary Glitter was imprisoned for possessing and distributing child pornography. You see, Gary Glitter had a lot of kiddie porn on his computer – a shitload of it, actually. Thousands of pictures. Thousands.
So the next time you’re at a sporting event and the home team goes on a big run, and “Rock N Roll Part 2″ is pumped through the arena or stadium speakers, and families are gleefully clapping and singing along at the top of their lungs, just know that it was a pedophile who was responsible for uniting all those sports fans in song.
