Eagles Flop Football

Nope, I’m not writing anything funny here.  There’s no fat jokes or any catches in the title.   I’m just flat out congratulating Andy Reid on his contract extension.  You might be wondering why I’m doing this.  Well, I’ll tell you why.

With the firing of Mike Shanahan in Denver last year and Mike Holmgren’s retirement from the Seattle Seahawks, the list of the NFL’s coaches that have long tenure took a hit. The departure of those two coaches left just 10 teams that have had the same coach for 5 or more seasons.  And, there are only two coaches that have been with the same team since the 1990s.

And who is the coach other than Andy Reid?  That would be Tennesse’s Jeff Fisher.   And Bellicheck is close.  He’s been with the Pats since 2000.  But I tell you, it’s truly amazing.

I’m pretty sure the NBA is even worse.  But man, come on franchises.  Is it really all the coaches?  I mean give at least some of these guys a shot.  What I don’t get is the whole losing coaches and just recycling them.  I mean a guy like Herm Edwards.  Come on!  He sucks.  Thank God he’s out of the league.

Point is, try someone new and let them stay a bit.  The NOW mentality doesn’t seem to work that well.  A new coach is rarely ever a quick fix.  Good help is tough to find these days I guess.
