We don’t cover a lot of MMA here on Unathletic, but I thought this story was particularly interesting.  From the Las Vegas Sun:

In October, news broke that Lesnar had pulled out of a scheduled fight with Shane Carwin at UFC 106 because of an illness so severe that his career was potentially over.

Mir was so distraught at the thought of never fighting Lesnar again that he became physically ill.

“When he got sick it screwed up my training because he was such a driving force for me,” Mir said. “I went into a depression for two to three days where I didn’t go to the gym, I got sick — I drove myself insane thinking we may possibly not fight again.

“I couldn’t live with that.”

OK, first of all, if you get out of having to fight Brock Lesnar, you celebrate.  You live each day like it’s your last and appreciate the little things, like birds singing and babies.  Brock Lesnar is a psychopathic behemoth and just by getting into the ring with him you risk having your face look like the lady whose face was ripped off by a chimp.

What I don’t get isn’t that not only was Frank Mir not relieved when he learned that Lesnar was sick, but that Mir actually became depressed over this.  What the hell?  The only explanation is that Brock Lesnar is actually a Reese’s Pieces and Speak & Spell-loving alien that created a telepathic link with Mir.  Yes, that’s it exactly.  Dana White is going to try and force Mir to fight Cheick Kongo, but Mir will fly off into the air on a bicycle with Brock Lesnar hunched in the front basket.
