Looks like Robin Lopez has some anger management issues:
Before he headed out the practice court door now covered by cardboard, Suns center Robin Lopez said Thursday that he felt “a little bit of remorse” for shattering the door glass in a rage over losing a three-on-three game Wednesday.
Lopez’s temper has not surfaced in games but he has had other outbursts, including a summer camp ejection. ‘I want to apologize for my actions, mostly to the janitor,’ Lopez said. ‘I think what happened (Wednesday) hasn’t really been an issue on the court. What happened is over with. Everybody has days like that. It’s human. What happened, I’m remorseful for it obviously. It’s over with. It’s not a big deal in the big scheme of things.’ The team considered a suspension but will issue him a fine. ‘I just have a certain drive,’ Lopez said. ‘It’s not anger with anybody but myself. … It wasn’t really that big. It’s not like I stayed stewing or dwelling on the problem an hour later, two hours later. It was an isolated incident. I’ve got to regain focus.’
There are certain athletes that get real frustrated and just lose it when things don’t go their way. Obviously Robin Lopez is one of them. The Cubs’ Carlos Zambrano comes to mind, too. The thing is, I think it’s great that these guys actually care so much about winning that they’ll throw a tantrum when they lose. Immature? Sure, but it beats pulling a Vince Carter and not giving a shit.
I’ve been known to punch holes in walls or destroy remote controls because one of my fantasy pitchers is getting all lit up like Buckcherry, so I can’t even imagine how these guys must feel when it’s real life and not simply watching Stattracker while praying your pitcher can get out of the inning without giving up any more runs. I feel like I get Lopez and Zambrano, and that’s why I root for them. There’s an unspoken link between people who throw tantrums – it’s like a fraternity of sorts. Except without elephant walks.
