Firestone tires lined up - indycar-2009-wg-as-0039

Look I understand that a league and a sponsor need to make money but come on, isn’t this kind of weird?

Firestone is the first-ever Official Tire of Major League Baseball. The multi-year agreement between parent-firm Bridgestone and the league marks Firestone’s largest sports sponsorship outside of racing.

“This relationship with MLB brings together two iconic American brands,” says John Baratta, Bridgestone’s president of consumer tire replacement sales. “Aligning the 109-year-old Firestone brand with America’s National Pastime is a great combination,” he notes.

The tire maker is to be the exclusive sponsor of in-stadium All-Star balloting, the biggest program of its kind in professional sports

Sure, I mean I can understand this kind of.  Baseball is a male thing.  Males like to drive and thus marketing tires to the MLB audience makes sense but shouldn’t it kind of stop there?  I mean where the hell do you see wheels in baseball?

Are they all of a sudden going to make huge announcements that dugout cars are sporting firestone tires?  Shouldn’t official tire of anything pertain to a sport where I don’t know TIRES are involved?

They should just stick to sponsoring and advertising but as far as baseball having an official anything they might want to stick with bats, gloves, hats, jerseys, even cleats.

But I’m gonna have to say no on tires.
