Yesterday marked the 30th anniversary of when Larry Bird and Magic Johnson began their basketball rivalry. A rivalry that I believe to be one of it not the biggest and best in all of sports.
As NBA.com put it..
It all began in college with the game that drove March mad, a nudge into sports insanity we were reminded of nonstop last spring as another of its big, fat, round anniversaries came and went. The rivalry that sprang from it, that burned through 13 NBA seasons and three Finals showdowns, was played out across 37 zero-sum games that managed to define and enlarge both Magic Johnson and Larry Bird
Honestly folks, it doesn’t get any better than these two when it comes to the NBA. Seriously guys, what two player rivalries exist today that are half as cool as this one. Kobe and Lebron? No. Shaq is done so no. Wade vs anyone? Not really. Two player rivalries just don’t happen like they used to.
And in honor of Bird and Johnson I’ve put together a little 5 video selection of some of their best stuff
1979 NCAA Finals
I can’t believe this was 30 years ago. I wasn’t even one year old yet. Just look at Bird. How was he good! I love it.
NBA TV Finals Magic
25th anniversary of the two. Great clip here.
The Best Converse Commercial Ever
OK Magic, show me what you got.
Classic Confrontations
I think I can watch these videos for an entire day and not get tired of them.
There Can Be Only One
These guys rule.
