The NFL is moving towards a more global model. The NBA is definitely becoming a melting pot as more and more Europeans come over not to mention the tremendous popularity of the sport in Asia. And now the MLB is trying to get its paws into the mix a bit more….
Bud Selig has already instituted baseball’s version of the World Cup with the World Baseball Classic, but will he be copying the UEFA Champions League next?
Selig’s latest pet project is the idea of a global World Series, where the winners of baseball championships in Major League Baseball and Japan’s Nippon Professional Baseball would compete in a series to determine a true world champion.
Would you guys care at all about something like this? I think it might make sense because every single person in Japan would be watching this thing. However, us? Face it guys. It would be very hard to watch a team with more than 50% of its players being ‘roided up (get realistic people, MLB players still juice) pitted up against guys that would look like 10-year-old girls next to them.
Unless these Japanese players have mastered the “Shuto” (I hope you guys get that reference) then I really don’t think the Japanese have a chance. And P.S. who really cares? I could be wrong but I just don’t see this being very popular here in the states.
