I’d like to give a warm round of applause to Kobe Bryant for leading the league in Jersey Sales. Way to go buddy.
The most popular jersey sales list is out. Topping the list for the second year in a row is Lakers guard Kobe Bryant. Cracking the top five for the first time is number four Derick Rose. Entering the list for the first time is number ten Pau Gasol. The rankings are based on sales at the NBA Store in New York City and NBAStore.com since the start of the season.
I can’t help but to think of a few things as I read about Kobe’s jersey sales. And it’s something that is a recurring theme in sports as I get older and have more of an appreciation or lack thereof for it. And this all relates to Tiger Woods, Mark McGwire, people like that.
Need I remind you guys that in 2003 Kobe was accused of sexual assault? Need I remind you that he embarrassed the living hell out of his wife? Need I remind you that the evidence sure as hell pointed to some wrongdoing? While Kobe may not have fully raped this chick, he cheated on his wife and probably did on more than one occasion.
I bring this up because despite my respect for Kobe as a player, ( and I have more respect for his competitiveness and fire than probably anyone in the league), this is a guy that still cheated on his wife and might not be such a good dude off the court.
What saddens me is that fans get forgetful way too fast. Mark McGwire? How the hell can you possibly embrace this guy? “I wanted to tell my secret for so long?” Are you f’in kidding me? Then why didn’t you? It’s all bullshit and it’s all a mirage. You cheated asshole. And you are WORSE than the other guys and yet the league welcomes you back? Forgive and forget I suppose but damned if people feel sorry for your anguish. Making millions all those years certainly doesn’t make me feel sorry for any cheater in the MLB.
Tiger Woods? Obviously this is a bad person. A very bad person. Prediction? He goes out there, trains his ass off and within five years none of this will have ever happened.
So folks, the next time you spend money on your kids supporting a player that may have raped a chick and at the least cheated on his wife, just think about that for a moment.
