mcgwire

Look I know it’s the offseason and all so I suppose the Mark McGwire steroid admission is “news” but come on people.  This would be the equivalent to Barry Bonds or Roger Clemens admitting they juiced.   I mean at this point it’s so damned futile and so damned obvious that what is the point?

And I can’t stand this whole “the truth will set you free” garbage.  Which unfortunately is true.  Case in point?  Jason Giambi, or even Manny Ramirez.  I shall explain.

Is it me or did people actually seem like they felt sorry for Jason Giambi when he admitted to his steroid use?  Hell the guy got a standing ovation when he returned to the field.  Um, excuse me but he did steroids!  He broke the rules.  Manny?  Clearly Manny is a joker and would have never said a word had he not been caught.

But what happens the day Manny being Manny steps back onto the field?  A rousing round of applause.  I don’t understand fans and I don’t understand what makes one player doing steroids acceptable and another not.  I think it’s, “if you admit it” you’re fine.  If you don’t you’re an asshole?  That seems about right and yes I think it is that cut and dry.

Honestly I’m not sure why McGwire finally admitted it.  I guess he did it because he was tired of lying and everyone knowing he did it anyway.  But Jesus Christ to ever really forgive the guy would be lunacy.  And for us to be writing about this is well…it’s just killing time.

But life goes on and McGwire still broke the rules.  Whatever.  I just want to see A-Rod’s new chick more.  She’s pretty hot

flop

I still consider myself a fan of the NBA, but without a doubt the worst thing about the professional game is the flopping.  It’s to the point where it’s like watching a fucking soccer match.  Nobody really plays defense anymore; instead of trying to block a shot, you have 7’0″ centers undercutting 6’2″ guards and then sprawling backwards into the first couple of rows of seats.  It’s pathetic.

And the semi-circle that was added a few years back to designate the “no charge” zone?  That has actually made things worse, as it encourages defensive players to plant their heels on the edges of the line and then fall down once they feel contact.  Or a slight breeze.

It happens on offense, too, as players will do anything to try and sell a foul. Sometimes all it takes is a finger to send an offensive player to the ground.

Maybe it’s just been awhile and my memory is hazy, but I can’t imagine flopping was even half this bad just 10 years ago.  For me, it’s ruining the game and taking the athleticism and defense out of basketball.  Running to a spot before the ball-handler can reach it and then falling down upon contact isn’t defense, and it isn’t basketball.

After the jump, take a look at some of the more egregious offenses.

As an alumni of Villanova I was forced to watch this video. So now I am returning the favor to fans of this site.  I had the following reactions during and after watching this….

1.) What the (expletive) is this?

2.) Why the (expletive) was this made?

3.) Is this (expletive)ing serious? Is this a joke?

4.) I can’t believe I (expletive) watched this

My favorite part is around 1:30 when the guy who is Bi-Curious at worst flies into the corner and turns around waiting for man love.

This thing fuggin sucks, the Black Eyed Peas should be pissed.

vernondavis

Vernon Davis was named an honorary captain of the U.S. Curling Team for the 2010 Winter Olympics. First, I need to reveal that I have a secret obsession with Vernon Davis because he is a freak of nature. The guy is an absolute physical specimen. I could live in the gym for the rest of my life and not look like this dude. Vernon has a nice little winter ahead of him. First, he goes to the Pro Bowl then the Olympics. He’s finally starting to realize his potential.

For those of you who have no idea what Curling is……. here are some Curling Teams which make it easy to see why Davis is the likely choice

Davis is being used to promote the sport of Curling in the United States. And the head Curling honcho is thrilled about it…..

“We’re definitely honored to have someone of his talent stepping out of his normal space on the football field to help support the sport of curling,” Rick Patzke, USA Curling’s chief operating officer, said in a phone interview Thursday.“Everything I’m reading, his talent on the field speaks for itself, but it’s inspiring to see what he’s doing outside of football, giving back in all the causes he’s supporting – including curling.”

Vernon Davis is the guy. A sport that involves pushing a granite stone down ice, is using the physical specimen as their spokesman. Interesting. In other news, Tank Johnson is being used in Women’s Ice Hockey Advertisements.

I can’t believe it. It’s finally here! The day has arrived!

Ex-National Basketball Association player Jayson Williams pled guilty and agreed to serve at least 18 months in jail for accidentally shooting his limousine driver to death.

He pleaded guilty Monday to an aggravated assault count for the 2002 death of Costas Christofi. Williams was awaiting a retrial on a reckless manslaughter charge.

Under his plea agreement, Williams will serve 18 months in jail for the aggravated assault and up to five years for a previous conviction of trying to cover up the shooting

Honestly I guess the only thing to say would be “justice has been served.”  But seriously folks, has it?  The guy has been walking scot free for the last 8 years.  He’s been partying, drunk driving and God knows how many other crimes he may have committed.

And we’re supposed to be happy that he’s finally going to jail?  What about the Christofi’s?  Accidental shooting?  What the hell was a shotgun doing there in the first place?  This stuff really pisses me off and my level of sympathy is about zero.

It’s one thing if you accidentally shoot yourself (Plaxico), it’s another if you murder someone.  Accidentally or not, 18 months is a pitiful excuse for a sentence especially when the guy is coming straight off a DUI.

And this proves my original theory: Jayson Williams is still an asshole and I hope he has many bad sexual encounters in jail.

I’m a New Yorker so I’m a little biased here but it’s always fun when New England fans lose a game. Anyone who knows a true Patriots, Celtics, or Sox fan knows they take their teams pretty seriously.

So when I saw this video yesterday I laughed my ass off because these people are NOT true Patriots fans. Think about how many people probably punched the cameraman and reporter who tried to get interviews out of them.

All I know is that there were a lot of punched holes in walls in Boston last night. Sorry guys. Actually I’m not at all. It’s pretty funny if you ask me.

Pete_Carroll

The NCAA football landscape is going to look a little different next season.

Pete Carroll has reportedly resigned as head coach at Southern California and will become the next coach of the Seattle Seahawks.

A source told the Los Angeles Daily News of Carroll’s resignation, but USC didn’t comment on the report. Later, the LA Times reported Carroll would accept the job with the Seahawks. The Times reported players and coaches learned of Carroll’s intentions via text message from an assistant coach.

Seahawks CEO Tod Leiweke was reportedly in Los Angeles Sunday to finalize a contract for Carroll. An earlier report from the Daily News said the deal was for five years and worth between $6.5 million and $7 million per season.

I like Caroll a lot, so good for him.  He seems like a very chill, personable guy, but has enough of a killer instinct to really stick it to his opponents.  USC was terrible this year and has been overrated quite a bit in the past, but it’s still tough to think of any school as the class of the PAC-10 besides USC.

You’ve got to think that losing Caroll is going to hurt USC quite a bit not only on the field but with recruiting as well.  And so what does that mean?  It means that next year, there will be one fewer team being overrated by the media and then placed in a bowl game where it gets annihilated by a powerful SEC team.  With USC out of the picture, it’ll be a few darling schools with weak schedules and a Big 12 school or two that spends its season playing against other Big 12 schools with no defense that will be served up to be slaughtered by the next SEC/BCS champion.

It’s a joke how much better the SEC is than the rest of the country, and with USC certainly on the decline, it will remove another undeserving team from BCS consideration.  The SEC has now won 4 BSC championships in a row and 6 of 12 overall.  That’s just silly.

Either break up the SEC or merge them with the NFL.  It’s become a joke at this point.
