Orioles Gonzalez Baseball

You could sort of tell right away that this wasn’t going to work out real well.

Mike Gonzalez signed with the Orioles in the offseason and was expected to admirably handle closing duties for Baltimore. Instead, he got off to a rocky start (0-2, 18.00 ERA in two innings pitched) and was placed on the disabled list Tuesday with a strained left (throwing) shoulder.

Oh, right – a strained left shoulder.  I love moves like this, where the guy being sent to the DL clearly isn’t hurt, he’s just making too much money to keep embarrassing himself on the field each day.  Gonzalez has been atrocious this year – the one appearance he had in which he didn’t give up a run, he still walked two batters – and the Orioles can’t keep trotting him out there with a two-year, $12 million contract.

I just wish the teams would get creative with the injuries.  Everyone knows it’s bullshit anyway, so have some fun with it.  Alfonso Soriano to the DL with bee stings on the penis.
