English Capt. Rio Ferdinand, who didn’t play in Manchester United’s final game against Stoke on Sunday, is facing a serious fitness test for the World Cup. He has suffered from ankle and groin problems all season. He will be put through rigorous physical tests to ensure he can make it through the rough few weeks of the World Cup.

Fabio Capella, the skipper of the Three Lions, will have to make a final decision in the upcoming weeks. Seeing he is almost certain to name Liverpool’s Jamie Carragher, it may not look good for Ferdinand.

Why is this even a relevant story? Well, the United States’ first game is against England, and England is the top competition in Group C.
