I know a lot of people are thinking that Bengie should shut up and be thankful he’s making bank for playing a sport for a living, but I’m on his side for this one.  From his blog:

That’s why ESPN’s sarcastic depiction of me running in slow motion down third base and getting thrown out at home in the Marlins’ game was hard to take. I appreciated Henry Schulman’s blog entry about it.

Until recently, I had thought of ESPN as a network run by professionals who know sports. I thought the people at ESPN, because they focus only on sports, actually understood the game and what pro athletes do to reach the highest level of their sport.
In that Marlins game, which we won, Nate Schierholtz went three-for-three with his first home run of the season. Matt Cain pitched six innings of no-hit ball. And the one highlight ESPN shows of that game is me getting thrown out at home? And they’re doing it just for laughs?
Look, you can say I’m the slowest guy in baseball or in  all of sports or in the entire world. I don’t take issue with that because I AM the slowest guy. I have always been the slowest guy. I can’t challenge that criticism. But ESPN’s intention was not to criticize but to humiliate.
I know it’s the cool, hip thing to bash ESPN, but they fucking deserve it.  Is it funny that Molina is slow as shit?  Sure, I guess.  But as the self-proclaimed “world wide leader in sports,” ESPN should focus a bit more on the game itself.  And Molina’s right – there’s no criticism of his speed, there’s nothing said about how his lack of speed is costly to the Giants.  Instead, ESPN threw together a quick video for a cheap laugh.
I don’t know why I would expect otherwise, though, as this is the network who brought us “Who’s Now,” which was essentially US Weekly and TMZ rolled into one.  ESPN has become the FOX News of sports programming, and I’m glad Molina called him out for their bullshit.  Yeah, he’s a rich athlete and blah blah blah, but ESPN is the worst.  I don’t know how anyone can tolerate it.

Twenty-six young ladies made the squad on Sunday night at Limelight. Final auditions were to take place this past Wednesday, but due to the Nashville flooding, the venue was changed from Wildhorse Saloon on 2nd Avenue and moved to Sunday. Proceeds from the ticket sales went to relief efforts for flood victims.

Is it me or is the phrase “relief efforts” getting thrown around quite a bit these days?  I mean I know there are a bunch of situations in this world that need relief but come on.  How about my “relief efforts?”

Something tells me these pictures will help in my relief effort

I gotta hand it to LeBron, because if I was him, I’d be cursing every single teammate I had for completely bending over for the Celtics.  Not to take anything away from Boston, because they’re playing great ball right now, but LeBron really was a one man team last night who got absolutely zero help from anyone.  I mean, Mo Williams was 8-18 (not awful, but 18 shots?) and Antawn Jamison – the big addition – was 2-10.  Sure, LeBron had 9 turnovers, but that’s gonna happen when you realize you have to do everything yourself because your pussy teammates can’t even make a layup.  How LeBron didn’t have a complete breakdown after posting a triple double and still getting knocked out by Boston is beyond me.  I’d be screaming and cursing at Jamison, that’s for sure.  Basically, I kinda feel sorry for LeBron, being as he’s the only guy on the Cavs who’s capable of anything.

Does this mean LeBron leaves?  I’m not sure, but I wouldn’t blame him one bit if he bolted.  And oh yeah, Mike Brown – you’re finished.

Washington, and then Pittsburgh. Philadelphia and Boston, the 6th and 7th seeds respectively,  playing for home ice in the Eastern Conference Finals. Simply amazing. No more NHL playoff predictions for this guy.

Am I an idiot, or is this just not true?

A very important player in a very important basketball game once went 3 for 18. He took eight three-pointers and missed every one of them. His team lost by 35 points. History does not remember him as a choker or afraid or not quite ready for the throne, even though he had this game on the largest stage — in the NBA Finals. No, history remembers him as Michael Jordan.

Le Batard’s mixing and matching here.  Jordan’s had a game where he was 0-8 from downtown, but it wasn’t in a game his team lost by 35 points.  And Jordan’s never lost a finals game by 35 points.  And he’s never shot 3-18 in a Finals game.  I think Le Batard is thinking of John Starks (2-18, I know).

Do my Internet skills suck, or is Le Batard making stuff up?

Nate Robinson didn’t get the reputation as a selfish player for nothing, and this video sure doesn’t help his case. Nate’s in his own world while Doc is going on about “togetherness,” but I guess it’s tough when you’re behind Michael Finley on the depth chart. That’s why I’ve always admired those towel-waving scrubs like Jack Haley. It’s not easy to be worthless and pretend you aren’t. I’ve been doing it my entire life.

UCLA_Cheerleaders_1

Tuesday afternoon, UCLA broke ground on a new era in the historic campus icon Pauley Pavilion.  After months of planning, construction on the project is finally beginning.  The $136 million project will give the historic arena an outside-face lift with the addition of an outer concourse.

Inside, the arena will have new team locker rooms, a reconstructed bowl and a movement of the student section to wrap around the east and south sides of the court. [Via]

Yeah?  And?  Does any of this matter to anyone outside of UCLA?  I didn’t think so.   What’s important is that there were cheerleaders there to celebrate this occasion.  Cheerleaders for a breaking ground ceremony.  Man I love college.
