Landon-Donovan

As the lead man of the United States national team, Landon Donovan gets plenty of attention domestically. Now, he’s getting some attention across the pond. Manchester City, the richest team in the English Premier League, have scouted Donovan extensively throughout the World Cup. At the moment there is said to be “significant interest” from the club.

Donovan is set to make about $2 mil with that LA Galaxy. This would also involve a $12 million transfer fee that would be split between the Galaxy and the MLS. Manchester City would likely sign the player around $4 million a nice pay increase. Donovan has experience in the EPL playing for Everton this past season.

Man City, who have already signed Robinho, Carlos Tevez, and Emmanuel Abedayor, is also looking to sign David Silva as an attacking midfielder. Silva coupled with Donovan on the outside with their current personnel and Man City would be in strong consideration to finish in the top 4 next season.

Landon–You said that if you returned to the EPL, it would be to pull on an Everton jersey. Stay true to your word, and you’ll be the more honorable man for it. (BTW–I am an Arsenal and Galaxy fan–no real allegiance to Everton).

I don’t know a whole lot about the Premier League, but I believe you have Manchester City and Manchester United confused when you say Man City is the richest team in the league.

Although a long time fan of Donovan, City would be making a mistake. Landon is probably at his peak right now, the slope only goes down from here. The stint at Everton although very good was probably an aberration, the EPL is not a good fit. Ghana’s hard early tackling seemed to keep Landon pinned to the sideline. Even another loan to the EPL will disappoint his fans.

Would rather see him @ Everton but Man City > LA by a long shot. Hope they will let him play.

He will be on the bench if he sign Manchester City.

This is all well and good and an honor…but I don’t know that he would start. He is clearly the strongest US player ever, but Man City has bought itself a world class team for a lot of money and I’m not so sure he would start ahead of some of those people.

Yea…too bad he said he would only come back to play for Everton. I’d be beyond surprised if this happened.

LB, No sir I think he was right… With the syndicate of multi-millionares that now run Man City, they are indeed the righest team in the Premier league. Sir Alex Ferguson wishes he had the cash that Man City now has to spend…

Larry Brown,

Just so you know, Manchester City is considered the richest team in the EPL because of money, ya know, actually “riches.” Their owner is a shiekh with some serious Middle Eastern oil money.

On the other hand (and other side of the city of Manchester), the other team you mentioned, Man United, has grown to become one of the POOREST sides in the EPL, meaning money poor. They are broke…seriously broke. Their fans are having some issues with their American owners. And, to be honest, even though I am American, and it has yet to seriously hurt their play on the field, I have to agree with these disgruntled fans. With that amount of debt, it’s tough to grow a team.

Anyway, regarding Landon, I would like to see him go back to Everton; however, I don’t know if they have the money for a transfer fee that MLS will now inevitably require for his services. If I were in Landon’s position, I’d go anywhere that could raise my game to the next level, raise my bank account to the next level, and where I could get significant playing time and felt comfortable. Everton is perfect, so hopefully they can afford him.
