Much to our surprise the 2010 MLB All-Star raked in the lowest ratings in the history of it’s televised existence. Y! Sports dropped the actual numbers and they were low. I’ll admit, I watched a little of the game and then turned it off and went to bed without any conflict. It’s hard to explain why the game just isn’t popular, but it’s not necessarily MLB’s fault. One thing is for sure, no one thinks playing for home field advantage in the All-Star game is a good idea.

If you think about All-Star games in professional sports you have the following; MLB which just laid an egg in ratings, The Pro Bowl which gets less views Jon and Kate Plus 8, NHL which I’m not sure if they still even play an All-Star Game, and the NBA which is an alley-00p contest. All-Star Games just don’t get it done for fans. There isn’t an incentive out there that can make these games awesome.

With that said, Olympic Hockey, the World Baseball Classic, and even Olympic Basketball to a lesser degree get good ratings. For now, the All-Star Games will just be what they’ll be. The flavor of the moment are the international event games. As an aside, A-Rod thinks the ratings are the lowest because he didn’t play.
