Jeff Van Gundy got a little carried away when asked his thoughts about the upcoming season for the Miami Heat.

They will break the single-season win record [of 72],” Jeff Van Gundy said. “And I think they have a legit shot at the Lakers’ 33-game [winning] streak [in 1971-72], as well. And only the Lakers have even a remote shot at beating them in a playoff series. They will never lose two games in a row this year.

I understand that they have Lebron, Wade,  and Bosh surrounded by some decent guys, but I thought this was rather aggressive. My favorite part of this interview was…

And with Erik Spoelstra coaching, they will be in the top three defensive teams in the league, as well. The other 29 teams better hope the lockout gets moved up a year.

The same Erik Spoelstra that was most likely going to be replaced by Pat Riley? Now that he has Lebron, Wade, and Bosh he’s John Wooden. I’m not saying he’s a bad coach, just saying Van Gundy got completely carried away. I’m going to go out on a big limb here and say none of Van Gundy’s prediction come to fruition.

IN THE WORDS OF DENNIS GREEN…………..

If you want to crown them, then crown their ass

That is all…..

I didn’t know JVG was marketing director for Miami/ESPN…those comments were plain foolish..He is trying to up the ratings for his bosses(ESPN) b/c they’re going to broadcast the Miami heat every chance they get…When the Celtics put they’re Big 3 together they still had young prospects, Rajon Rondo, Glen Davis, Kendrick Perkins, Tony Allen..the Threet are still in thier prime, unlike the Celtics Big 3 were, but thier supporting cast is weak & old…Ilgaskus???We all seen what he’s been able to do in the playoffs…Juwan Howard????….Dexter Pittman????…..Mike Miller????everybody swears this guy is the ultimate role player now…prior to July 9 people probably wasn’t sure if this guy was in the league…I think Miami will win alot of games but they’re not the favorite to win it all….I think the length & inside domination of the Lakers coupled with the assisnation skills of Kobe Bryant r still too much to overcome in a 7 game series..

The Miami Heat does have a great chance to win the Eastern Conference champioship!! Having said that Boston will be better this coming year than the last few years that they have either won it all or have lost to the best team in Basketball, The Los Angeles Lakers!!
The addition of Germaine O’Neal and Shaq will give Boston the edge in the paint. Jeff Van Gundy flies off the handle sometimes. But This time he got caught up in the “Dream Team Hype” that Lebron James brought to miami! The Eatern Conference champions are the champions until some team takes it away from them!! My money is on Boston to take the Eastern Conference and The Kobe, Pau, bynum, odom, Artest, Fisher, Steve Blake, and Mat Barnes …….team to take it all next year!!!

Van Gundy is unsurpassed for overstating a team’s potential. Let’s just wait and see…
