Scottie-Pippen

Don’t you guys think that Scottie Pippen getting a statue is a little much?  Pippen was a great player in his own right.  Don’t get me wrong.  But shouldn’t a statue be for the best player of a team’s history.   I mean let’s face it.  Scottie Pippen was a key to all the Bulls championships but he wasn’t a team carrier or anything like that.  I don’t know man.  I don’t get it.

All I do know is that there are players out there who are statueless and are far more deserving than Pippen.

Here are five worth noting….

Larry Bird

It’s pretty hard to think that Magic Johnson has his own statue outside the Staples center and Larry Bird’s got nothing.   Then again, Boston is a very tough town and it would take a lot to get that thing passed.  However if there’s one guy that deserves it, it’s Larry Legend.  Come on.  No white guy will ever do what Larry Bird did in any league, ever, period.

Kobe Bryant

His career already speaks for itself.  Aside from the you know, raping incident, Bryant will go down as a top 10 all time player.  Possibly a top 5 if he wins another ring or two.  Say what you want comparing him to Michael Jordan and Bryant not even being close.  Even I am starting to bend a little.

Bill Russell

Here’s another tough one from Boston.  How many championships did this guy win?  Exactly.  Come on.  Plus he kind of looks what I would imagine God to look like anyway.  Give the man a statue.

Karl Malone

He may not have won a championship but something tells me we’ll never, ever see a better player for the Utah Jazz.  The guy was a phenomenal player and a black guy who is a hick.  Kind of awesome.

Julius Erving

There aren’t too many “game changers” in NBA history.  Dr. J turned the league into one of style, grace, and a more badass intensity than it ever had before.  If not for Julius Erving I don’t think we’d have seen the likes of Bird, Magic, Jordan, etc etc.
