Chargers_Girls_2

As many of you may or may not know, the Chargers Girls are one of my favorite squads in the NFL.  I mean what’s not to love?  They live in a fantastic city.  The majority of them are attractive and when you see them in street clothes it’s nearly as good as seeing them on the field.  OK well maybe it’s not but still.

Recently they made an appearance at some bar to promote their new calendar.  While I will not be purchasing said calendar I am still very happy that it’s available and I was able to scrape some pictures.

Yippee!

College_Mascots_20

One of the best symbols of school spirit is something that should be taken somewhat seriously.  Now, it doesn’t mean that the symbol itself should be a serious symbol.  By no means is it written anywhere that any college needn’t have a sense of humor.  However, even the most ridiculous mascots out there have had some thought put into them.

I mean when you’re visiting another school or you have a home game you want to make sure the fans get pretty riled up.  And in order to do so I can think of two things:  cheerleaders and a kick ass mascot.

We cover cheerleaders here so here’ s a gallery of awesome college mascots…..

vincent-jackson

click on photo to read more about a deal that never went down for Vincent Jackson

It was not the prudent thing to do, but I love it. For once the inmates weren’t running the asylum. A.J. Smith got deal after deal offered to him for Vincent Jackson. Instead of taking a deal he had luke warm feelings about he decided not to take anything. He doesn’t give a shit if Jackson gets to play or not. Cry all you want VJax, you didn’t get owned, you ARE owned.

Lebron to the Heat has passed, the focus now; where does Carmelo Anthony end up? He’s made it clear that he will not resign with Denver, and it appears that the Nuggets’ front office is a disorganized messed. The top candidates for ‘Melo still seem to be New York and Chicago. As I mentioned before, Chicago would be legit if they added ‘Melo. The Knicks would be closer to legit.

I do believe ‘Melo will find a way to New York, but they’re not going to have a draft pick in the next 30 years. The Nets offered a handsome package for ‘Melo that included Derrick Favors. If the Knicks land ‘Melo and somehow grab Deron Williams or CP3, I’ll be a Knicks fan again…..

LA_Tech_Cheerleaders_9

It wasn’t the greatest weekend for Louisiana Tech fans as their team lost to Navy but at least we got a chance to look at their wonderful cheerleading squad.   These girls have some serious spirit.   From the many different uniforms to the group hugs it was just all out effort for that teams.

And after the game I’m sure they all partied regardless of the loss.  At least that’s what I’d like to think they did.  What a great group of young girls right?  I have no idea what I’m saying.

More pics after the jump….

There’s nothing worse than seeing a sports movie where the actual sports scenes are horrible.  Let me give you a perfect example.  It’s not a movie but did you ever see any episode of “Saved by the Bell” where they are in the gym?  The basketball rims are like 7 feet high and the court is maybe 50 ft long.  Not to mention any time someone shoots a basketball it’s like watching a 5-year-old girl.

If you’re gonna make a movie about sports at least get some coordinated people to play the roles of the athletes.  And please take the time to do your research and get the emotional elements down.

Here are seven movies that I think did an excellent job of capturing both the emotional and technical elements of their respective sports

APTOPIX Indians Twins Baseball

Click on photo to read more about the Twins making the playoffs

I’m going to take a chance and say this year is the year the Twins don’t get smoked out of the playoffs with ease. I know it seems to be the most likely case again, but I’m saying they knock off the Rays or Yanks in the first round. It would be a colossal upset, but somethings got to give at some point right? If Mauer isn’t healthy I take this back….

Eagles Vick Starts Football

I live in Philadelphia. I do not root for Philadelphia sports teams, but I listen to the radio a lot. Michael Vick and the Philadelphia Eagles are ALL you hear the past week and a half. There is no mention of the first place, red hot, headed to the World Series for the third straight year Phillies. It’s unbelievable. With that said, Andy Reid since day one has been adamant about the Kolb-era beginning this season, hell it’s why they traded McNabb. So after two quarters Michael Vick is the quarterback… Here are the possible theories…

1.) Andy Reid has been enamored with Michael Vick and his abilities since they acquired him. Perhaps he watched the tape was even more enamored and now thinks he could elevate his status to genius with his offensive play calling. Love is a strong emotion.

2.) Despite saying Kolb is the quarterback until he’s blue in the face at the end of the day it wasn’t his decision. Someone from above told Reid to play Vick and he obliged.

3.) The Phillies are stealing the glory. This story has consumed the city and now they have forgotten about the Phillies.. mission accomplished??? The Eagles are struggling to compete with the Phillies popularity. Desperate times call for desperate measures.

4.) Could they be building Vick’s value to trade him mid-season? This is flimsy because if he does well and they win, they’ll be in the playoff race so they can’t just go trade him. He can walk at the end of the season though, and they just paid Kolb.

There are millions of theories floating around, all of which ignore the fact that Kolb got hosed. The guy patiently waited, worked his ass off, and after two quarters lost his starting job to the sexy play. I don’t question Vick’s talent, I question everything else about him. I don’t believe you build a championship team around Mike Vick. He’s a quick fix that looks sexy. What’s worse is this situation is showing the incompetence and inconsistency of the front office. We’re talking about a bunch of bozos second guessing themselves here. I hope you didn’t bet the over on Eagles wins this season.
