High school sports are something I cannot bare to watch.   The skill level isn’t high enough but whenever I get hold of a game on TV it reminds me of my own playing days.

Granted I was nothing special back then but I still miss it dearly.  And to be honest, there are some things about high school sports that I’ll never have again hence I’ll always be nostalgic.

Here are five that come to mind….

The Fact That I was in High School

I think we all underestimate how great a time high school was.  The reason you think it sucks at the time you are there is because you are an adolescent and everything pretty much sucks.  However, looking back as an adult, come on.  It’s awesome and there’s no bones about it.

Winning Actually Meant Something

About the most satisfaction I get out of winning anything related to sport these days is a Fantasy Baseball title or having won a bet on Sunday Football.  I mean who the hell cares about winning a summer league basketball trophy?  In high school everything counted.  Every good performance and every victory was a building block to a future.  Not that I ever went anywhere athletically but you know what I mean.

Athletics=Girls

Unfortunately I had one of the only high schools in America where this sentiment actually didn’t hold true.  There was zero school spirit at my school and the cheerleaders were pot heads. Still though, I’d be remiss if I didn’t add this because it’s true for most schools.  If you’re part of a sports team you’re gonna get chicks.

Being Close to Teammates During the Season

It’s kind of like being in a fraternity before you even know what a fraternity is.  Call it unity.  Call it pride.  Call it bonding.  Hell call it gay if you want but it’s still true.  It’s a great time to actually put your guard down from having to be a badass teenager and simply be friends with people because you’re all on the same team.

It Didn’t Hurt so Much To Play

Jesus Christ how the hell did I not get sore in high school?  How is this possible?
