NBA Entertainment scored big with “Once Brothers”, the story of the Yugoslavian National Basketball Team break up and the friendship that was severed between Vlade Divac and Drazen Petrovic.

The documentary of the two best friends and teammates has been by far the best piece in the “30 for 30″ series. The series, like others, started out with it’s tagline… “What if I told you….”

So what if I told you a budding friendship rooted in national pride could be ripped apart by something completely beyond the control of the friends? That’s what happened to Vlade Divac and Drazen Petrovic when civil war broke out in Yugoslavia in the early 1990s. The two leaned on each other for support as teenagers and later as they made their journey into the best basketball league in the world, but the friendship was senselessly torn apart along with their former home country, Yugoslavia.

“Once Brothers” is a very emotional depiction of the journey that ended up in tragedy. My suggestion is to take an hour and a half and watch this documentary. You will not be disappointed.
