This was the big finish? This was your touche to the Red Sox, Phillies, et al. Take that league, we just signed……. Rafael Soriano? Certainly, Rafael Soriano is no the answer to combat the likes of Carl Crawford and Adrian Gonzalez is he?

Well, no probably not. As it stands right now, the Yankees have Mariano Rivera, David Robertson, Pedro Feliciano, Rafael Soriano, and Joba Chamberlain in the bullpen. Oh, and maybe even Alfredo Aceves,  and Damaso Marte after the All-Star break, . Did they improve the bullpen? Sure they did, but was that the goal?

We can speculate one of two things. (1) They are considering moving Joba back to a starting role or at least want that flexibility. Pettitte isn’t coming back so the Yankees are scrambling. The fact is; if they carry Mo, Soriano, Feliciano, Robertson, and a couple chumps for long work, they really have no place for Joba. Which leads us to (2) Joba is still a relatively warm commodity. Paired with up and coming Brett Gardner and some minor league talent (which they have a lot of) could mean the Yanks may be looking to make a deal. Could come toward the trade deadline, but if Joba isn’t starting, look for him to be dealt. You know as well as I do, he’s wasted pitching the 6 or 7th inning twice a week, and the fact they gave Soriano a 3 year deal doesn’t mean he’s setting up for Rivera anytime soon.  To be continued………..
