5 MLB Players To Watch in 2011

Posted by in MLB

Spring Training is well underway. There have been some interesting stories that have come out of Spring Training thus far that have lead me to believe there are a few people to watch closely this season. Obviously, it’s very early to tell, but going into this season I am going to be keeping an eye on the production of the following guys..

Take a look…..

(5) Jimmy Rollins – SS – Philadelphia Phillies

J-Roll has an important season upcoming. First, and foremost, he’s gotta stay healthy. He doesn’t want the final third of his career to be all about injuries. If he does stay healthy, he’s got to get on base and avoid trying to hit home runs every time he gets to the plate. His average has been horrible, and OBP has been worse. Keep an eye on J-Roll.

(4) Justin Morneau – 1B – Minnesota Twins

Justin has had a tough time coming back from his concussion last season. He’s almost there, but not quite. This is somewhat alarming, and needs to be monitored. It’ll be interesting to see if Morneau’s production declines this year. Be sure people will be connecting the two all season long.

(3) Alex Rodriguez – 3B – New York Yankees

A-rod dropped the weight for 2011. I think it was the best thing he could have done. He’s been bulky and the injury bug has been biting him. He’s another one that is in jeopardy of finishing his career plagued by injuries. The irony of this all is that the guy still hit 30 HRs and drove in 100 RBI’s last year. I’m curious to see if goes 45/150 again before it’s all said and done.

(2) Manny Ramirez – LF – Tampa Rays

I’m not going to lie, Manny looks pretty locked in early. Guy busted his ass in the off season. Busted his ass. I don’t think Manny is going to put up ridiculous numbers, but honestly I think he’s good for 25/110 and an average over .300. If he stays healthy, but he’s looking good.

(1) Adrian Gonzalez – 1B- Boston Red Sox

Interesting pick here, if I do say so myself. He’s coming off a little surgery, but that’s not the focus. Adrian Gonzalez led the league with opposite field home runs for lefties last year. He’s in Fenway, and he’s in a RIDICULOUSLY good lineup. San Diego isn’t homer friendly, and he had no protection. We are going to find out if he’s a very good player or if he’s elite. He could potentially driving in 140. I expect BIG things.
