Money, money, money. You better believe it’s going to happen, and if you don’t you haven’t witnessed the trends of late. The NFL, NHL, MLB, and NBA will go global. It may not be next year, it may not be in 5 years, but if you are my age and you are reading this article then you will see globalization of American professional sports. It’s going to suck, but it’s all about the dinero my friends.
So now that you’ve dried your eyes. Lets take a look at how things will play out…
You think that random game in Wembley Stadium in London was just for kicks? You think the NFL Europe was for fun and wasn’t a test. The NFL is going to have a division in Europe. It’s probably the only pro sport that can do this with ease because they play once a week. What’s the difference between the Patriots going to San Diego vs. the Patriots going to Spain? Customs. That’s about it. I would say 4-5 teams are added to each division most likely in England, Germany, and Spain. Think about the added revenue. We’re talking billions.
This is the most natural fit. When I say natural, I say look at the popularity of hockey in Europe, particularly Eastern Europe. Here’s what we don’t know living in America. The Russian Superleague and other leagues in Europe are just as popular as the NHL and still make a ton of money. Uniting forces would make sense. It would be a money explosion. The logistics are a little challenging. We’re talking unfriendly roadtrips. It’s hard not to imagine it would happen.
Major League Baseball is fitted with the most challenging of tasks because Europe isn’t their globalization destination. We’re talking more South America and Asia. Asia is the place the MLB has reached it’s tentacles. Logistically this is impossible, but there is a TON, a TON of money to be earned either playing games regularly in Asia or adding a couple west west or far east teams. You could win an argument against me on this one because it’s a logistical nightmare, but don’t try to deny MLB is trying to plant themselves in Asia.
Read it and weep my friends. (NBA plans expansion into Europe). This is a done deal. Done deal. There will be NBA franchises all over Europe. It’s money, it’s easy. Have fun on 5 game road trips in Europe fellas.
