The Atlanta Falcons made themselves scary with one pick last night. It was a bold move. They pretty much sacrificed this year and next year’s draft to move up and pick Alabama WR Julio Jones. I’ll tell you what…. I absolutely loved it.
The Falcons can now officially scare the crap out of defenses around the league. Roddy White is an elite receiver in the league. He’s easily top 5. Tony Gonzalez seemingly doesn’t get older, and Michael Turner is an excellent back. Putting Julio Jones on the other side of the field of White, with Gonzalez, makes the Falcons damn near impossible to defend.
Julio Jones is a bit of a hard case, but his physical talent is off the charts. He and Roddy White are two very big, physical, downfield threats. Matt Ryan has to be drooling right now. He’s got to be thinking adding another 1,000 yards to his passing totals next year. Don’t misunderstand me. I don’t think Jones will be a 1,000 yard receiver out of the gate, but everyone’s total should increase. The great thing about this is Jones will have great mentors in White and Gonzalez. I love the move.
