Let me just get this out of the way first; I understand that these guys probably aren’t suited to be President of the United States. I get that, but I just wanted to make sure we all get that because I do get a lot of e-mails calling me names and stuff.
Today, I have 5 athletes for you, who I would follow through hell and back. These guys just get it. They’re leaders, they stay out of trouble, and the inspire those who need inspiration. Sure they won’t lead the country, but if they had the knowledge maybe they wouldn’t be that bad at the job.
Here are my 5.. As always suggestions welcome…
(5) Joe Mauer – Minnesota Twins

If you don’t like Joe Mauer there is something wrong with you. Unfortunately, he cannot stay healthy, but Joe is as good as they come, and he’s the leader of that team in Minnesota. You don’t think Minnesota would elect this guy governor? He’d be a lock.
(4) Chris Drury – New York Rangers

I dare someone to argue this one with me. Led the USA, has won in nearly every competition he’s ever played since he was a kid, and he’s a flat out good guy. Drury has all the credentials.
(3) Derek Jeter – New York Yankees

The Captain is the obvious choice, so all you haters have to deal. Does Derek Jeter ever say the wrong thing in the media? Is he not the Captain of a team in New York? Does he not have 5 World Series Rings? Could he be elected mayor of New York tomorrow? That is all.
I’m trying to think outside the box on this one. Maybe I’m just going with my heart because I genuinely like Phil Mickelson. Golf is a tough sport to gauge leadership, but I think Phil has what it takes.
(1) Drew Brees – New Orleans Saints

And my winner… Drew Brees. I love this guy. I love his intensity, his leadership, his heart, and his character off the field. Here’s my vote. What do you have??
