As many domestic leagues near their end, it’s time to evaluate which five clubs were the best of the best. The season proved to be one of the better years of soccer for most leagues around the world. At this point, many things are yet to be decided in terms of Europe, not even including the Champions League Final, which will take place Saturday, May 28th.

There is no country bias here whatsoever. We at Unathletic have no favorites, just a stern appreciation for soccer around the world. Of course, some great teams are going to be left out. My apologies.

Here are the 5 best Clubs in the world……

(5) FC Porto – Portugal

FC Porto gets the nod at #5. They absolutely destroyed La Primeira Liga and are set to take home the UEFA Europa League Championship against fellow Portuguese squad Braga. The fact that there were three, repeat three, Portuguese clubs in the final four of the Europa League gives weight to their domestic play. FC Porto has had a fabulous year, and we will reward them with the #5 spot.

(4) AC Milan – Italy

Two words: Italian Giants. This team is absolutely loaded with skilled players, and could easily beat any team in the world. They’ve won their 18th Scudetto, and it was well-earned with fantastic play. If Pirlo stays, and a few transfers end up in Milan they’ll be right here next year.

(3) Real Madrid – Spain

There’s a problem with Real Madrid… it’s FC Barcelona. Aside from the Copa Del Rey, Barca has had their number. Real will finish 2nd in La Liga, fall short in the Champions League all because of Barca. With that said, this team is ELITE, and comfortably #3 in the world.

(2) FC Barcelona – Spain

Speaking of FC Barcelona… This is when people start to complain. I realize Barca could easily be #1 in the world. We’ll have to find out on May 28th. Barca has done everything you could expect from them this year, and they’ve done it in a dominating fashion. They’re probably the #1 team in the world unless….

(1) Manchester United – England

…. Manchester United beats them. Yes, the Red Devils are getting the nod for the number one spot in the world. Here’s the problem. It’s illogical. I think the EPL top to bottom is the best league in the world. Why wouldn’t another team appear in the top 5 then.. Well I look at body of work, Chelsea were asleep to start the year, Arsenal have not been strong of late. Hey, they all could have been there. Manchester United, if they beat Barca in the Champions League Final, will make me look smart!
