Let me preface this article by saying; I’ve watched Jorge Posada since he broke into the big leagues. If you watched him last year you saw what I saw. The guy couldn’t catch a Babe Ruth game. Jorge is a very proud man. He’s also not a self-aware man. Like many athletes of his time, it’s time to realize, but he doesn’t, to call it a day and ride off into the sunset. Jorge, buddy, you are cemented into Yankee lore. You are a Yankee legend, do you realize how special that is? You gave your heart and soul to this team, and every Yankees fan knows it and loves you for it. Don’t ruin it now. Be careful.
If you followed the saga this weekend, you know it ended with Posada apologizing to the team and Joe Girardi for his actions Saturday. I understand Jorge is frustrated and very down right now, but don’t ruin your legacy. Don’t spoil the fact that you are going to be welcomed back into Yankee Stadium for the rest of your life. If Jorge doesn’t smarten up and come to accept that his time is done, he will continue to weather the strong sentiment Yankees fans have for him. You did what you did, you said sorry. Going forward you need to play when your in the lineup, bust your ass, and what will be what will be. Do this, and I promise you you’ll be given the departure that players dream of when they retire from the Yankees. Just be careful, it would be the biggest regret of your life if you ruined that moment.
