Today’s Criminal Showdown features two special sports tainted by syringes, synthetic hormones, and lies. Now I understand that there is room for interpretation here, but lets be real. People can only piss down your back and convince you it’s rain for so long…
Baseball: Baseball has gone through hell and back with steroid usage. There has been convictions, lies, and for the past 15 years it seems every player that has made a major impact has been indicted on steroid charges. The game somehow still maintained enough integrity to persevere through tough times, and seemingly has righted the ship.
Cycling: Cycling is at a clear disadvantage here. The face of cycling worldwide is an inspiration to cancer survivors, but also the focus of doping accusations seemingly non-stop. It seems as if every cyclist who has ever won the Tour de France has been charged with doping. What’s worse is the corruption behind officials and testing make “he said she said” commonplace in the sport.
Verdict: Unfortunately, I have to take down cycling on this one. Baseball really took a hit from the steroid issues, but there were still good people in the game, and it was strong enough to overcome. The doping in Cycling is this clandestine, deep rooted corruption that seems to permeate throughout the sport. It’s next level and there aren’t many left to carry the sport through…

My thoughts:
Who the hell cares about professional cycling??

This is the typical attitude towards cycling from a non-cyclist. Every sport is corrupt, and, yes, that includes your beloved football and basketball players. No other professional sport in the world tests its athletes like the UCI tests pro cyclists. If the pro football/baseball/basketball players were tested like cyclist, there would be none of them left.

So cycling, which has strict drug controls, random drug testing, and they even freeze your blood to be tested later. You are going to take it down? On the “facts” from Tyler Hamilton who has been busted many times for doping and is basically out of a job? And the same with Floyd? Two guys “word” but no tangable proof. No positive drug test from Armstrong.
Now Baseball, which has no controls like cycling…..you are going to say it is better because “there were good people in the game”? So people like George Hincappie aren’t good?
They stripped Floyd of his title. Are they going to do that with Barry Bonds? Nope.
