Just the other day one of the guys in my fantasy league brought up a great topic. He asked the question “if you were a closer in the major leagues what song would you come out to?”

There were tons of pretty great answers. I personally said “Jitterbug” by Wham as a goof but my honest answer was the song by New Noise featured in the movie Friday Night Lights. I don’t know how I’d contain myself with that guitar riff.

After some research I’ve come up with a solid list of great closer songs we’ve seen played throughout the major leagues. Hope you enjoy the list…..

Mariano Rivera – Enter Sandman

I’m not saying that Billy Wagner stole it. Don’t worry people. But if anyone has laid claim to this song it’s obviously Mariano Rivera, the best closer of all time.

Mike Timlin – Black Betty

Unfortunately I don’t have a clip of Timlin walking out to this but here’s the song.

Eric Gagne – Welcome to the Jungle

Man, remember his one insanely roided season? No better a song than this one that year. Too bad this clip is of him on the decline. Joakim Soria happens to do that one now.

John Rocker – I Wanna Rock

Obviously the song makes perfect sense. I don’t have a video that captures his classic running out to the mound antics but come on. This video is great.

Trevor Hoffman – Hells Bells

I actually got goosebumps watching this. Talk about a way to pump a crowd up.

Brian Wilson – Jump Around

Honestly I think a Lady Gaga song might make more sense for Wilson. Hell I wouldn’t be surprised by anything that Wilson came out to. But come on, this song is fun as hell.

Joe Nathan – Stand up and Shout

I remember seeing the movie Rockstar and thinking this would be a great closer song. It sure as hell is.

John Smoltz – “Dancing Queen”

man I wish I had a video of this but I promise you it’s true. Here’s a link to the evidence.

This is what happens when you don’t choose your song and drop the hammer on the team.

*Honorable mention – Wild Thing with Rick Vaughn. Yes it’s fictional but it still kicks ass.

John Axford actually uses ‘New Noise’ as his entrance for the Milwaukee Brewers now. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eif3SMzXhLo
