Remember a few weeks ago when Kareem was bitching about not having a statue? That sparked some debate over the next few days about how easily statues are being erected these days. I mean one player has a great season and he gets a statue? I mean hell. Cam Newton has a statue of himself already. Dude hasn’t played one day in the NFL.
OK, he was a great college player…but a statue? Not even a year removed from college? Personally I think that’s a little much. Funny in all that debating. No one ever mentioned that soccer players get statues an awful lot as well.
In fact, here are 1o you might not have known about…..
Bobby Moore

Moore was the only Englishman to captain a world cup team. Plus Pele called him the greatest defender he ever faced. That’s gotta say something.
Carlos Valderrama

Holds the record number of caps for a Columbian player, as well as the sweetest barnet ever worn on a football pitch
Eusebio

727 goals in 715 appearances for Benfica. That’s simply absurd. He’s regarded as one of the best ever and rightfully so.
Billy Wright

Wright was the first ever player to represent their country over 100 times and was never booked throughout his entire club career
Tom Finney

He’s got the coolest statue but I don’t see any evidence he really deserved one.
Diego Maradona

Definitely a game changer in the world of soccer. Widely regarded as one of the most wild and gifted players ever.
Johnny Haynes

The first player to earn £100 a week, and captaining England. Pele called him ‘the best passer of the ball I’ve ever seen’.
Duncan Edwards

Edwards was a key member of the Busby babes and touted as a future England captain, becoming a regular in the national team at 19 years of age. Tragically killed in the Munich air crash of 1958.
Ronaldo

Scorer of the most goals in World Cup history.
Cristiano Ronaldo

Scoring a phenomenal amount of goals from midfield, being a dead-ball specialist, step-overs and sheer arrogance, but really it’s his babe slaying that earns my praise.
*and yes, Pele has a statue but it’s kind of lame looking

I think you forgot Coen Moulijn, who played for my favorite team Feyenoord and won the European Cup I in 1970. He passwed away earlier this year, but this statue was there years before he died: http://attuworld.com/sports/coen-moulijn-standbeeld.html
