The NBA Draft takes place on Thursday night with teams picking from what seems to be a pretty shallow talent pool. If you look at last years draft only a select few from the lottery panned out in their first year. Now I know it’s early, but some prospects certainly don’t seem promising. I guess well find out what Ricky Rubio‘s got next year. With the draft coming up some teams are going to hit a home run, others are going to fall through.

Here are Unathletic’s Top 5 Prospects who we’ll promise they pan out……

5. Marshon Brooks – Providence

Marshon Brooks was a devastating scorer in the Big East. He’s 6’4″ and athletic, and in his first year should score points off the bench. If Marshon can adapt to the NBA and change his game a little bit he’ll be a very valuable draft pick for the team that takes him.

4. JaJuan Johnson – Purdue Boilermakers

I have a serious man crush on JaJuan Johnson. How can you not? The guy is 6’10″, he’s long, he’s athletic and he’s going to put on size. He can score, his three is a little weak, but I like this guy for the team who can snag him.

3. Justin Harper – Richmond

If you’re going to drool over JaJuan Johnson, take a look at Justin Harper. He’s 6’10, 225 lbs, and he’s hell of athletic. The size of this kid and upside is tremendous, plus he’s a flat out winner. Richmond is on the map, and Harper is a big reason why. I watched the kid play, he was unstoppable in the A10 tournament and NCAA tournament.

2. Kenneth Faried – Morehead State

Kenneth Faried. Think Ben Wallace, but better. This kid has got a ton of heart. He’s not going to be a superstar, but when you’re building a team, you need a Kenneth Faried. Perfect fit for the Knicks who need defense and rebounding. Perfect fit.

1. Derrick Williams – Arizona

Here you have it folks…. I think Derrick Williams will be the best player drafted this year. He’s a big guy, with athletic ability, that should do very well in the NBA. People need to remember that he was the best player in the NCAA Tournament last year without question. The question will be if he can keep that intensity and focus. If he does he’s going to be very successful.
