I’m getting on in years, so there’s a tendency for the gut to start filling out. I’ve pretty much hung up the basketball shoes for life. It was a nice career, but after the ACL tear I figured that was a wrap. Today, we need to explore new options. Granted, you can not be in shape and play some of the following sports professionally, but this is more so for the common man.
What sports to move on to now? I understand if you want to truly compete in all of the fun sports you have to be in shape. What if the six pack is fading away? What sports do we go to then.
Here is a comprehensive list for the common man of sports you can play and not be in shape…..
5. Bowling
Bowling is fun, sometimes. I mean I prefer to go to the lanes where you can bring a cooler of beer and just chill with friends. This sport, however, can become your thing if you practice and enjoy it. Best of all, you don’t need to worry about your conditioning.
4. Shooting or Archery
I’ve always wanted to shoot at the clay discs. I feel like it would get old fast. BUT, what if you do it once and you love it. Guess what? You found your new sport and you can still go to all you can eat buffets.
3. Sailing
I tried to find the most appealing picture to help sailing’s cause. Sailing is actually somewhat strenuous, but you don’t have to be in basketball shape. I think for me it would be all about the peacefulness of the sea, but other than that I’d be bored. Oh, and you have to buy a boat.
2. Softball
Now we’re talking.. Get your buddies, get a couple of ringers and join a league. This works, it’s like baseball right? right?
1. Golf
And there you have it my friends… Golf it is. Get your buddies, hit the links, practice at the range. Golf is the new sport. Keep the gut down so you can maintain a nice swing. You have to practice though or this sport will eat you up and spit you out.
