I’ve already expressed my opinions on cycling.   I just don’t think it’s an interesting sport.   People make a relatively big deal about the Tour De France and yet why don’t we hear about cycling for the rest of the year?  And nowadays when we do it’s about steroids which frankly I don’t think many people care all that much about.

It’s dudes riding bikes.  It’s kind of like car racing.  Eventually you’re gonna get kind of tired of watching a bunch of cars go in circles.  By no means am I downplaying the skill involved to be successful in the sport.  I’m just saying it’s not incredibly entertaining to watch.  And forgive me for wanting to be captivated while watching a sport.

Though I will say this.   Cycling does involve some pretty neat wrecks from time to time.  And as long as the guys are OK, I feel safe about giving my oohs and ahs.  Otherwise I’m just a dick who likes watching people trip and fall.

Speaking of which, this picture of cyclist Laurens Ten Dam is pretty hardcore.  Thanks to TPS for the photo.

“And forgive me for wanting to be captivated while watching a sport.” – While it is indeed comparable to couple of weeks of daily marathon runs (car racing is wrong comparison – those dudes do not push cars by their own force), bicycling has its excitement from time to time as seen in today’s (stage 18) 2011 TDF: there was plenty of drama, daring escape, chase, failures of top guys and overall winner keeping it by performance in the very last minute. To get what is happening completely you need some “bored watching” in previous days but after all it is few weeks long event. Just imagine how exciting every moment of NFL game would be if they played it 5-6 hours per day, every day for 3 weeks… oh, wait, that is more games than they play for the whole season.

You know if you are gonna bash a sport than at least get the drugs involved right. Dumbass.

I don’t think people actually watch it, it’s just on for principle.

Typical meathead american: only appreciating your “ball and stick sports”. I try to watch them, but they just sit around (with the clock running) most of the time. BORING!
