Spraying a kid with champagne!? Victor Martinez isn’t going to be in the running for dad of the year anytime soon. The Tigers celebrated last night, and so did Victor Martinez’ son Victor Jose. Apparently, he let his kid get after it too. What do you say to this, “Here son don’t have fun, but don’t drink any” I’m sure that worked.

“Oh, for shame!,” says the knee-jerk reaction.
But here’s the rest of the story:
All teammates, past & present, rave about what a fine citizen –and specifically, father –Victor Martinez is. Little Victor has traveled with his dad all season, and has been “adopted” by the team, much as Dusty Baker’s kid was by the Giants a few years ago. Everyone associated with the Tigers has marveled at how close they are, and how Big Victor inspires them to be better parents to their own kids.
It’s not as though they were feeding shots to the tyke, and I’ve heard no reports that he’s hungover today –on anything but the joy all Detroit is feeling.
Considering how many pro athletes can’t name, or even count, their offspring, and try to weasel out of support payments for baby-mamas –”father of the year” isn’t far-fetched at all. “Every picture tells a story,” but sometimes that story’s a lie.

There’s no age limit to drink all that victory.
They Yankee’s are probably even more drunk to forget on how badly they sucked.

The champagne is no-alcoholic you idiot. It’s more of a prop than anything.

See all 3 of the above comments. I’ve met Little Victor and Big Victor at a game this year, I am at a loss for how amazingly close and happy they are to be together so much.
Additionally, if you watched, and more importantly LISTENED, to the Fox Sports Detroit coverage of the postgame they referenced the fact that it was non-alcoholic sparking cider and juice multiple times because not only was Little Victor there but Dave Dumbrowski’s son was also present.

It is indeed non-alcoholic champagne. Y’know, with Cabrera and his troubles and all.
